OFLP Conducts Stakeholders’ Consultation on Emission Reduction Payment

The Oromia Forested Landscape Program (OFLP) has conducted stakeholders’ Consultation on Emission Reduction Payment Agreement issues in Ambo Town. Participants drawn from key implementing sectors have agreed to consolidate collaboration and work toward effective implementation of Emission Reduction Payment Agreement.               

Ato Taye Dugasa, OFLP Coordinator, while opening the event, disclosed that the core objective of the event was to impart to stakeholders the overall status of the Oromia Forested Landscape Program and discuss ways of effectively carrying out Emission Reduction Payment Agreement.     

On the event, OFLP principal objectives, major activities accomplished so far, key project achievements and future focus areas were presented by the Program Coordinator. Moreover, Emission Reduction Payment related activities and its current status were presented by Ato Getu Sheferaw, OFLP Forest Specialist.   

It was hence disclosed that OFLP has so far reforested 9,427 hectares of degraded land and implemented PFM on 207,400 hectares of forest which account 104% and 173% of its overall targets respectively. Moreover, it was disclosed to that Emission Reduction Payment activities are promisingly moving forward.  

Meantime, due discussion was made on ways of further scaling up the so-far achievements and deepening cooperation toward effective implementation of Emission Reduction Payment activities. Accordingly, Participants agreed to tighten collaboration and work toward effective implementation of Emission Reduction Payment Agreement. 

This is a series of consultation planned to be carried out in selected towns of Oromia so as to address key stakeholders across the region. Accordingly, same event has been so far conducted in Finfinne, Ambo and Weliso towns.
